SCI Shared Resources LLC Corporate - Business Analyst in Houston, Texas

Overview & Responsibilities


The role of the Business Analyst is to work as a liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams to participate in the analysis of the business processes and application requirements to create documentation on specific business needs to be developed and implemented for our applications and/or related software. This position works side-by-side with the Product Owners, Subject Matter Experts and application users to understand the business requirements to be provided to IT and translate them into a working set of functional requirements.


  • Develops business insights based on analysis of results, and communicates key findings to various members of management to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

  • Ability to write advance queries using SQL to critically analyzes and evaluate information gathered from multiple databases and sources.

  • Prepares reports, performs analyses, and evaluates opportunities for process improvements and to achieve cost savings goals.

  • Responsible for requirements gathering, business and system requirements, and the creation of detailed requirements documents and sign off by business owners.

  • Responsible for creating and implementing test plans to ensure all requirements are tested and passed for production.

  • Interpret business requirements to identify proper tools and methods to analyze, identify and report data trends and variances.

  • Development of measurement processes/methods for assessing progress towards goals and project outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Ideal candidate must have 5-7 years of Business Analyst experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Business or Information Systems (preferred; not required).

  • Advanced skills with MS Excel a must. MS Project a plus.

  • Solid experience in writing advanced SQL queries a must.

  • Demonstrated requirements analysis and business process definition skills along with outstanding documentation skills.


  • Quick Study – ability and willingness to learn and apprehend new things quickly.

  • Analytical Skills – ability to analyze data, documents, user input and workflow to determine which course of action will result in the needed information.

  • Creative Thinking – effective in generating new ideas for approaches to problem solving and in generating alternative solutions. Ability to take a large dataset that is ambiguous and abstract and break it into smaller pieces, patterns and views.

  • Decision Making – effective in understanding the criteria involved in making a decision, in making decisions, and in assisting others to make better decisions.

  • Problem Solving – effective at defining and solving problems in order to ensure that the read, underlying problem is understood and that solutions actually address that problem.
