SCI Shared Resources LLC Corporate - Accounting Supervisor in Houston, Texas

Overview & Responsibilities


Supervises and creates appropriate entries and schedules in preparation of the financial statement close

on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis. Identifies and resolves accounting issues encountered while keeping management apprised of potential issues requiring attention. Interfaces with all levels across all subsidiaries and departments regarding accounting issues. Responsible for reviewing reconciliations, variance explanations, mentoring staff accountants, and special projects as assigned.


90% Corporate Accounting

  • Analyze and forecast balance sheet balances and entries.

  • Suggests need for new or changed controls and/or procedures and recommend such changes to management as necessary.

  • Ensures that transactions are properly supported and classified in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Provide oversight for reconciliations, rollforwards and processes

  • Coordinate and supervise daily activities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Ensure goals and objectives are accomplished

  • Coach, train and mentor team members to ensure competency gaps are closed and to provide opportunities for development

  • Provide Variance Analysis for Balance Sheet and Income Accounts on a monthly, quarterly and yearly.

  • Performs professional-level accounting duties such as reviews of journal entries, work papers, schedules, reconciliations and reports

  • Works closely with various stakeholders such as Corporate Development, Financial Reporting, Treasury, Risk Management and field locations and management

  • Examines a variety of accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations

  • Ensures transactions are in accordance with applicable authority, policies, procedures, and are recorded consistent with acceptable accounting standards

  • Demonstrates or explains accounting practices and procedures as requested

  • Reviews accounting reports and supplemental schedules

  • Leads and provides guidance to direct reports and/or accounting staff

  • Special projects as necessary

  • Perform other tasks as requested

10% Auditing and Compliance

  • Prepares or reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual SOX controls as required

  • Responds to SOX and internal and external audit requests as needed

  • Provides support in analysis of developments in US GAAP; ensures guidance is understood and our accounting policies remain appropriate

Requirements & Qualifications


  • Five (5) years of financial experience or equivalent experience in a related field preferred

  • One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Oracle or related general leger application experience preferred

  • Understanding of accounting principles, GAAP

  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations

  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines

  • Ability to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation

  • Proficiency with PC software such as Excel, other Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in both written and oral communications

  • Highly motivated with interest in analysis, ability to formulate opinions, and take action steps based on analysis performed

  • Understanding of IBNR (Incurred but not Recorded) activities preferred

  • Industry experience a plus
